Week 4 Website

The website I have been studying is The Children's Defense Fund, http://www.childrensdefense.org. I have really learned from this website that there are many people that are out there doing a lot for children and are not looking for anything in return. I learn that people are helping just because of their love for children. One thing that I found controversial is that the website stated that the new poverty numbers came out and children are still the poorest in the country. That bothers me because these children did not ask to come into this world, we just had a lot of irresponsible parents that gave birth and knew they were not capable of providing for their children. The part that always stands out to me is the mission statement “The Children's Defense Fund Leave No Child Behind® mission is to ensure every child a Healthy Start, a Head Start, a Fair Start, a Safe Start and a Moral Start in life and successful passage to adulthood with the help of caring families and communities.”

  1. Kevin,
The mission of the Children's Defense Fund is an extremely important mission. I believe with the intentions of this mission there are many implications that affect the follow through. It makes me think of a saying about how it takes a community to raise a child.

  2. Hi Kevin- You are very correct in your response-children did not ask to come into this world. Every child deserves every opportunity possible. I personally feel that some single mothers want everyone to feel bad for them and get things handed to them. It was not the public's fault or their child's fault. Some single mothers (including myself) chose to take on the responsibility of having a child and work extremely hard to provide. No child should ever be left behind.

  3. Hello Kevin, I think it is very wonderful that children are being looked out for, especially when people/organizations do it just because they care. I often wonder if parents had intentions to give their children the best, but circumstances changed that.

  4. Kevin,
I also agree with you that children did not ask to be born. It's great to hear that people understand this and are helping to make a difference.
