Hunger stress

When I was a child I have experienced stress from being hungry. My mom and dad use to go to work and left my sisters and I at home with my older brother to care for us, but he use to always leave the house and go with his friends so that left us with no one to care for us. It were times when I was so hungry I couldn't get out of bed and I didn't know how to cook so I was lost but how I coped with it was I would eat some crackers and cheese. When I was hungry I didn't feel like going play with friends or anything. I used to fix my sisters a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) "28% of all child mortality in Ethiopia is associated with under nutrition" (WHO, 2013). In Ethiopia children are dying everyday from starvation and here in America I know I now waste a lot of food. There are people trying to help but the need for food is almost too much to supply.

Immunization

The topic that I chose this week is immunization. Immunization is meaningful to me because it allows me to know that children are getting the preventive care they deserve. It is already bad that in most cases soon as an infant enrolls in a daycare they catch all the viruses that are going around and get sick really fast. Immunization does gives me some type of peace of mind that if a child is not up to date on their immunization shots they are not allowed to attend the daycare. I know not all sicknesses can be prevented but some can be prevented by a child getting a little shot every 3-6 months of their early life when their immune system is not as strong as an adult. In Ireland immunization is only require if the parents want their child to have it done and their signature is require stating that they want their child to have the immunization preformed.

Birthing Experience

The only birthing experience that I have seen is the birth of my son. He was born October 23, 2012 at Bolivar Medical center. It was an exciting experience for me so that is why I chose this story. He was born 9lbs12ozs. What i remember is my wife constantly slapping herself on the leg repeating that "come on Chaundakay you can do it" she must have said this for a couple of hours. The scary part is when he came out he had no response my heart just dropped and all I could do was have a blank stare, didn't want to cry and upset my wife but after about 40 minutes they allowed us to come see him and he was fine. How birth has an impact on child development is this is were a child's life begins and the future of the rest of their life can begin.

In China when a baby is born, they are already considered to be a year old. Praise is never giving to a new baby from China because they believe this is an invitation of ghosts and demons. These things are different from my culture because when a baby is born he/she is considered a day old. And also when a baby is born we get our baby blessed to bring God in their life and try to keep the devil away.
