Week 4 Website

The website I have been studying is The Children's Defense Fund, http://www.childrensdefense.org. I have really learned from this website that there are many people that are out there doing a lot for children and are not looking for anything in return. I learn that people are helping just because of their love for children. One thing that I found controversial is that the website stated that the new poverty numbers came out and children are still the poorest in the country. That bothers me because these children did not ask to come into this world, we just had a lot of irresponsible parents that gave birth and knew they were not capable of providing for their children. The part that always stands out to me is the mission statement “The Children's Defense Fund Leave No Child Behind® mission is to ensure every child a Healthy Start, a Head Start, a Fair Start, a Safe Start and a Moral Start in life and successful passage to adulthood with the help of caring families and communities.”

Child poverty and social protection

I have not received a response yet on my childhood professional so I view the alternate website. This website has a lot of useful information about childhood poverty. This website is trying to figure out why are there so many children living in poverty. This website also has a section where you can donate so if you can please help these children in need. Also I read about children affected by HIV from there infected mothers. This newsletter talked about a mother did not get prenatal care, which could have help the child, but since she did not get the care the child was born positive.

The website I chose to explore is: http://www.worldforumfoundation.org. The first step I took to communicating with a professional was join the website for Free to engage in the discussion. Then after joining I looked at discussions from professionals from other countries and I commented on their discussions.

One of the professionals was Maya Nayo from the Philippines,

international website

The website I chose is http://www.omep-usnc.org/. This is a worldwide organization for early childhood, and they have assisted in projects Haiti relief and Jamaica relief.  "OMEP has national committees in over 60 countries divided into five geographical regions: Africa, Asia and the Pacific Rim, Europe, Latin America, and North America and the Caribbean" (http://www.omep-usnc.org/). "Our goal is to ensure the wellbeing, rights, and education of children (birth – age 8) and their families in the U.S.A. and around the world -- today and in the future" (http://www.omep-usnc.org/).

Going Abroad

In this assignment, I did not have to take an alternate route. I clicked on the link (http://www.naeyc.org/resources/partnership/globalalliance) and the names of professionals came up and I randomly selected two of them and emailed them. I informed the professionals who I am and that I will be contacting them throughout this semester to get information about early childhood in their country.

The website I chose is www.zerotothree.org, I chose this website because I am interested in this age. I have a son that will soon be two and I am eager to learn new things about what to expect and ways to properly handle it.

My Supports

The number one supporter of mine is my church and my God. No matter what I am going through I know I can go to them for advice and just to talk to. My God is the reason I wake up every morning so I think that is self-explanatory of what will happen without him.

Family is something that I am very passionate about and I really show it. I am 23 and my wife and I have been together for 8 year and married for almost two. What makes me love my family even more is when I was 10 I had an accident and the Doctor told me it would be hard for me to have children, but my God had different plans and blessed me with a son. Without my family I think I would have to be put in a facility because they are people that take me for who I am and are there for me when I am happy or when I am sad.

Basketball is something that I love doing and put my mind at ease. Basketball is something that I am good at playing and it helps me because it allows me to exercise and have fun doing it. Without basketball I think I will be hurt because it is something I do as much as possible and it allow s me to take my mind off my problems for a while and focus on the game. If basketball was removed from my life it would affect me because I have lost something I love.
Getting my Masters degree in Social Work is very important to me, the thing that keeps me going in Social Work is know that I can make a difference in a person life.

My Connections to Play

“When you play, play hard; when you work, don't play at all.”
Theodore Roosevelt

“Life is more fun if you play games.”
Roald Dahl, My Uncle Oswald

When I was younger, we had kickball games at my elementary school and the gym was at full capacity every game. People came to the just show support at pick up games. The major difference I see in play today than I did ten years ago is today people can't play without arguing and fighting. When I was younger we played just to have fun.
